Synopsis:
Jonas Amsel and Avalina Keller, devoted Nazis and best friends, have a bright future in Hitler’s Third Reich. My Thoughts:
Before we start I should probably state that historical novels are not my favourites or go tos. However I just couldn’t say no to this one.
Strap yourselves in, because this one takes you on a wild ride!
We begin with our main characters, Jonas and Ava, childhood friends turned lovers. Suddenly, Ava and her family vanish into thin air and Jonas’s world crumbles around him. Talk about a gut punch! (If you do not do well with emotions I’m letting you know now this book filled me with mixed emotions.)
Determined to find his one true love, Jonas dives headfirst into his job as the notorious Fox Hunter. But don’t be fooled, folks, because his heart is still set on reuniting with Ava. (If you have been here a while you will know I’m a sucker for romance).
This book is a real rollercoaster of emotions and jam-packed with fascinating characters. One character that really stood out to me was Ava herself. She’s one strong and independent woman, always fighting for what she believes in. Talk about bravery! She’s willing to put her own life on the line to save others, which definitely had me rooting for her. Plus, it’s always cool to see some familiar faces from the author’s other books making appearances, even if they’re just on the sidelines. As always I am a sucker for a strong independent woman as one of the main characters.
Now let’s talk about Jonas. The poor guy is torn between what he’s been taught his whole life and the shocking truths he uncovers. Imagine having your entire belief system shattered like that! It’s a struggle we can all relate to, grappling with accepting the truth when it goes against everything we’ve known. Elyse Hoffman does a fantastic job capturing Jonas’s internal turmoil and making it feel all too real.
The story ramps up towards the end, focusing on Jonas’s chance at redemption. Get ready for some heart-pounding excitement and explosive moments! Love truly conquers all in this exciting climax, with Jonas going to extraordinary lengths to prove his love for Ava. You won’t be disappointed with the satisfying ending, and the last few lines will leave you hungry for more, setting up the next book in the series perfectly.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate Elyse Hoffman’s unique take on WWII historical fiction. It’s safe to say I will be picking up their other books!
