Sizzling Romance in A Touch of Darkness: Hades and Persephone Myth Retelling

Hey book lovers!

Remember when I shared my January TBR with just two books? Well, that plan went out the window during a trip to London where I picked up four more books. So, my TBR is running with a whole lot of chaos!

I grabbed A Touch of Darkness and finished it the next afternoon. Buckle up, my loves, it’s time for another book review!

Warning: This book contains some spicy scenes!

My bestie recommended this book, promising I wouldn’t be able to put it down. And guess what? She was right. I picked it up at 5 PM and finished it by lunch the next day, with barely any sleep in between.

A Touch of Darkness is a modern retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth. I completely forgot it was part of a series, and now I’m desperate for the next book!

Synopsis:

Persephone is the Goddess of Spring by title only. The truth is, since she was a little girl, flowers have shriveled at her touch. After moving to New Athens, she hopes to lead an unassuming life disguised as a mortal journalist.

Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favorite bets are rumored to be impossible.

After a chance encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Dead and the terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever.

The bet does more than expose Persephone’s failure as a goddess, however. As she struggles to sow the seeds of her freedom, love for the God of the Dead grows—and it’s forbidden.

Thoughts:

Persephone chooses to live among mortals, with an awesome roommate, by the way. Thanks to her overprotective and slightly ridiculous mother, she’s been sheltered her whole life and doesn’t believe in her own powers. She’s in college, studying to be a journalist (which I love), hiding her true identity, and avoiding all gods and goddesses, especially Hades.

But of course, Persephone is curious and intrigued by Hades and the mysterious world he inhabits with his clubs and casinos. The moment Hades left his mark on her arm, I was hooked—and maybe a little obsessed with their relationship.

The chemistry between Hades and Persephone is sizzling, and the spicy scenes are written beautifully. Despite a few moments where I wasn’t sure about Hades, my doubts vanished whenever Persephone returned to him.

If you love a mix of mythology, modern settings, and steamy romance, you won’t be able to put this book down. I certainly couldn’t!
