Hello my loves,
Today’s post has taken me a while to get my head around what I want to write about it. Honestly, it was a perfect end to an era for me and so many of us. I’m not 100% sure I am ready to let go of it.
In my opinion it was the perfect mix of laughter, tears, chaos and everything that screams my comfort character.
Synopsis:
Mr Darcy (Colin Firth) is dead and has been for four years now. The grieving Bridget (Renée Zellweger) is now a mother of two. She decides that it is time to move on with her life. She wants to return to work. Bridget also hopes to find new love.

My Review:
Bridget’s Back, and I’m Mad About It (in the Best Way!)
If you love old-school rom-coms, this one delivers in every possible way. It’s got that classic Bridget charm, plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, and just enough real-life heartache to keep things grounded. And let’s be honest—who doesn’t love a good excuse to dive back into the world of Ms. Jones?
I saw this on Valentine’s Day afternoon with my Mum. It felt fitting since she was the one who introduced me to Bridget Jones way back. I was old enough to appreciate a disastrous love life and an excellent diary entry. The cinema was buzzing. Groups of women were laughing together. There was the occasional couple. A shared anticipation filled the air that we were about to step back into something special.

When they announced Mad About the Boy was coming to the big screen, I was nervous. Bridget’s story is one of my all-time favorites, and I wanted her to get the ending she truly deserved. Well, let me just say—I STAND CORRECTED. This film was beautifully done. It’s the little things. It’s the subtle nods. It’s the carefully crafted moments that made me fall in love all over again.
Nostalgia, Cameos, and a Whole Lot of Love
A big part of why this movie works so well is because it respects its roots. So many of the original actors from the previous films return, even if just for a fleeting moment. Jim Broadbent’s touching flashback as Bridget’s dad? TEARS. Emma Thompson back as the gynecologist? Gold. Even blink-and-you-miss-it cameos like Celia Imrie and Joanna Scanlan felt like little gifts to longtime fans. Every familiar face was a reminder of why we fell in love with Bridget’s world in the first place.
The New Boys on the Block
Enter two new love interests: the dashing teacher Mr. Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and the wild-card younger man, Rockster (Leo Woodall).
Now, Rockster… oh, Rockster. I went back and forth on you, my guy. On one hand, you ghosted Bridget (rude!). On the other, you are undeniably gorgeous. You managed to pull off a Colin Firth-inspired pool dive. It made my entire row swoon. Did I love the character? Not quite as much as I expected to. I loved him in his own right don’t get me wrong. Did I love watching him? Absolutely.
Mr Wallaker, you had my vote the moment you supported Billy. He did something that turned out to be the perfect way to pay tribute to his dad.
Bridget’s kids, played by Mila Jankovic and Casper Knopf, also deserve a huge shoutout. Little Mabel is a star in the making. I love her name and her little Bridget attitude that shows. Billy, or as Daniel Cleaver calls him, “Miniature Darcy,” had me smiling every time he was on screen.
Oh, Daniel Cleaver, You Devilish Delight
Oh, Daniel Cleaver, how we have missed you and love you. Anyone else got a slight soft spot for Daniel.
Speaking of Cleaver, Hugh Grant is just too good at playing the charming scoundrel. He’s back, just as inappropriate as ever, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Seriously, watching him slip back into this role is an experience. It’s like watching your mischievous ex show up at a party looking unfairly attractive. You know he’s trouble, but damn, he’s fun to have around. Seeing him reunited with his kin brought unexpected joy. Realizing he wants more from life was also surprising. Anyone else feel the need to give him a cuddle. (just me?)
The Tears. Oh, the Tears.
We knew it was coming, but that didn’t make it any easier—Darcy is gone. (I’m still in mourning, if we’re being honest.) The film doesn’t just brush past this loss; it leans into it, and the result is deeply emotional. There wasn’t a dry eye in my cinema, myself included. A particular moment involving a school performance and a round of applause? Yeah, that one broke me. It was the audible group sob from those in the cinema that did it for me. The clever nod to the reindeer jumper, the owl and everything in between. Mr Darcy you were truly loved and missed in the same sentence.
Laughter Through the Tears
But don’t worry—this is still a comedy, and it delivers. Sure, some of the best lines were given away in the trailer (why do they always do that?!), but there were plenty of surprises that had the whole cinema cackling. Bridget’s chaotic charm is still very much intact. Watching her navigate love, motherhood, and mischief was a joy from start to finish.
A Love Letter to Bridget
Dear Bridget,
What a journey. What an ending. I grew up watching you although not like my mum did, rooting for you, and learning from you. As a woman in her late 20s, I have few role models. You have been a constant presence since I turned 18. Mum said, ‘Here’s a film and book I think you will love.’ Now I am at a different stage in my own life. You’ve reminded me of something important: “It’s not enough to survive, you have to live.” That line hit me straight in the heart. Maybe, just maybe, this movie came at the perfect time for that little reminder.
We never fully understand grief and life. Yet, we quickly fall into the trap. We just live to get to the next day and then the next day. We forget to stop and appreciate the little things that truly make like just that bit more special.
I laughed. I cried. (Oh boy, did I cry.) And now, I just want to watch them all over again from the beginning. Maybe I need to.
Because, at the end of the day, being “very Bridget Jones” isn’t an insult—it’s a badge of honour. She’s a total badass, and we’re lucky to have had her for all these years.
Bridget, you did us proud. ❤️
Love Always,
