Dearest well…you,
Today is one for all my Enemies to Lovers book troupe fans and let’s be real there is a lot of us. The boyband fan girls in all of us that started off reading the Wattpad fan fictions (yes, we have all be in there) colour this novel for you. Just you know the grown up 26-year-old us who still may lose her mind at a boyband or two. Or a boyband member at least.
Now before I get into this, I will disclaim that I picked up this book a couple months back, started reading it and put it on pause for another project but once I picked it up again. I could not put it down.
We are obviously talking about I knew you were trouble by the wonderful Emma Rae and the boy band Rebel Heart who are newly reunited and well that calls for a documentary film obviously.

Synopsis:
Title: I knew you were trouble
Author: Emma Rae
Genre: Contemporary Romance / Enemies to Lovers / Music
He’s the world’s most famous frontman. She couldn’t care less.
Lexi is already an Oscar winning documentary director at just 30-years-old. But when she is asked to ditch her current project in exchange to film Rebel Heart – a reunited boy band – she is disappointed to say the least. She didn’t work this hard to follow a boy group on tour and document their every manufactured move for teenage fans.
But after meeting Aidan, the unofficial ‘head’ of the band, something new stirs inside her. She thinks he’s egotistical, entitled, and impulsive. Equally, Aidan thinks Lexi is high-strung, secretive, and emotionally devoid.
Tensions rise, and as Lexi blends work and pleasure, she can’t let go of her difficult past with the father that abandoned her. She doesn’t expect people to stay in her life for long. Especially the lead of a boy band. But is this project about to prove all her expectations wrong…?
A classic enemies-to-lovers story arc, for fans of Hannah Grace and Ali Hazlewood.
Readers are falling in love with Emma
My Thoughts:
🎤 What I Loved:
Wow – who knew a boy band tour and a stubborn documentary filmmaker could make such an addictive combo? Well I had forgotten how much a little enemies to lovers mixed with a boyband and nostalgia at is finest would have me wrapped up in this novel needing more.
I didn’t expect to get this wrapped up in the tension, the banter, and the slow-burn chemistry between Lexi and Aidan! Invested heavily in the will they won’t they and the is Aidan actually going to speak to her like that, or but wait he’s kinda cute which literally has you thrown through an emotional rollercoaster the whole book.
But listen it’s not just Lexi and Aidan, each member of the band has something going on a situation to rectify, a secret that needs to be told and everything in between. You cannot help but fall in love with them all at one point or another.
[Insert your favourite thing here: a quote, a scene, or a character moment you adored!]
Lexi’s I don’t take any shit attitude with Aidan’s rockstar I would say charming but he’s not always charming attitude, gave serious sparks-fly energy. The banter? Top-tier. The emotional growth? Chef’s kiss.
Themes That Caught my attention:
- Facing your past 🛑
- Letting your guard down ❤️
- The messy magic of falling for someone you didn’t plan to ✨
Characters:
Honestly, Lexi stole the show for me! Lexi, in my opinion, was the character with so much relatable energy. She knew what she wanted to be doing. However, to achieve it, she had to take on this project. Which was the furthest thing from what she was wanting to do. She’s not perfect but she has a way of bringing people together and I think this is what makes the books special.
Now Aidan, where do I start with Aidan. From the offset he wasn’t my favourite; he was a little bit of a mean person to Lexi but what I will give Aidan is that my opinion flipped very quickly. He has a lot going on in his life. The band’s quick rise to fame took a toll. Their never-ending schedule was always going to affect him. He is slow in trusting people. However, I think once he trusts you, you’re basically stuck (in the best way) with a whole ass supporting cheerleader.
Lexi’s resilience gives the readers someone to root for. Aidan’s soft side underneath all the smoldering bad boy image captivates as well. Even a hilarious side character provides support.
🔥 Spice Level:
Let’s just say… the tension builds perfectly. If you love a romance that smolders before it ignites, you’re in the right place. Although for my spicy romance girlies, this is a slow burn. It occasionally calls for you to want more.
Final Thoughts:
This was such a fun, emotional, and romantic read. Think tour buses, behind-the-scenes drama, healing old wounds, and unexpected heart connections. If you are a boyband fan, consider adding this to your summer reading list. Were you a fan in the past? In that case, it might also be worth reading. If you’re into Hannah Grace or Ali Hazelwood, you’re going to have a blast with this one.
