🌟 Book Review: Fan Girl Down by Tessa Bailey — 5 Stars of Swoon & Sass đźŚź

Happy Friday!

Okay besties, I just finished Fan Girl Down and let me tell you—this book had me hooked. I kept reading until I was grinning. It felt like I’d just watched my teenage celeb crush do a shirtless slow-mo hair flip. (You know the one.)

This book? A whole vibe. It is a deliciously nostalgic, 2000s-style romcom fever dream. It includes “I-can’t-believe-he-just-said-that” banter. It also has some of the cheesiest, dreamiest tropes I LIVE FOR. Picture this: steamy tension, second-chance vibes, and just enough emotional gooeyness to make your heart go squish. 🧡

Let me just say it loud and proud: 5 sparkly, heart-eyed stars from me. Was it a little over the top? Maybe. I thoroughly enjoyed every single dramatic line. I savored each heat-soaked moment like it was the last tub of cookie dough ice cream on Earth. Absolutely.

🎤 “But is it for everyone?” you ask, twirling your straw in your iced coffee with raised eyebrows.

Fair point. It’s not exactly the most subtle love story. It’s giving full campy romcom energy. It feels like early 2000s movies where there’s fireworks on a balcony. You know the press event has everyone holding their breath. If you’re into snappy dialogue, you will enjoy this. It has big swoony gestures. The main characters flirt like it’s a competitive sport. (I promise you now it will have your feet kicking). This is your moment.

But here’s the thing—Tessa Bailey knows exactly what she’s doing. She’s not trying to write high literature. She’s writing glittery, steamy, feel-good deliciousness. You devour it like you’ve just been dumped. It’s like finding a secret stash of Valentine’s Day chocolate. And honestly? That takes talent.

My hot take? Tessa Bailey wrote this book for the girlies who grew up on How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. They secretly wrote fanfic about their celebrity crushes. They still believe in big, messy, wildly passionate love. (Hi. It’s me. I’m girlies.)

And because no review is complete without a swoony little snippet, here’s one of my favorite lines that made me audibly sigh into my latte:

“I am the number one Wells Whitaker fangirl. Sure, golf’s resident bad boy has seen better days, but that’s the thing about being a fan girl. Be in it for life or keep walking, pal.

✨ How are all my fangirls feeling? I know you have that one person who came to mind. You thought of them reading the first line of this book. ✨

I was never much a fan of golf, despite having worked in a mini golf shop (does that count) but after reading this book quite frankly imma need me a Wells Whitaker and that involves golf apparently.

If you’re here for a good time, a little steam, and a little sass, read this book. It offers a whole lot of joy. Then come back and discuss it with me in the comments. I have thoughts about That Scene in Chapter 13 (no not the scene that has split the opinions but the one that had me giggling and praying for wells’ win.

💌 New here? Welcome to the club, babe! I’m your bookish BFF, bringing you unapologetic fangirling, honest hot takes, and romance recs that make your pulse race. Hit that subscribe button if you love love stories, messy characters, and emotionally chaotic leads as much as I do. Let’s be besties who obsess over fictional men together, yeah?

Until next time—keep your books spicy and your standards fictional. 💋

Love Always,

Gee xoxo
