Dearest well…you,
Today’s post is one that has been a long time coming. It is one I can’t help but to express my pure and unhinged excitement for. It is of course my review of Gaslight by Holly Dixon. If you follow me on any social media, you will know getting my hands on this book. This was a whole ass adventure to rescue my delivery. But let me tell you oh my life it was so worth it.
*Now before I go any further… If you are a family member especially my dad, please stop reading here. You have been warned. *
“Oscar Wilde once said there is one thing worse than being talked about: not being talked about.” So that’s what we are going to do… we are taking this book, and we are talking about it. Oh, are we talking about it!

Title: Gaslight
Author: Holly Dixon
THEY SAY KINGS NEVER DIE.
MY NAME IS CLARA KING, AND THIS IS THE STORY OF HOW I DIE.
Socialite and psychology major Clara King looked forward to spending her twenty-first birthday at home in Florida. However, that all changes when her overbearing father drags her on a family vacation to Mexico, where Clara collides with their hot chauffeur, Enzo Ramirez.
Enzo grew up on the rough streets of Tampico Bay; Clara grew up near Billionaires Row.
Opposites attract, but not for this pair.
Clara would learn that there was a thin line between love and hate and that the burning resentment she felt for Driver Boy would soon burn into something much hotter as the small town they inhabit would force them into close proximity.
On the surface, Tampico Bay was the perfect setting for a summer romance, but beneath that shimmer and sparkle ran cracks in the streets filled with blood and secrets that were best left buried.
The only problem?
Clara couldn’t help digging up truths, but the deeper she dug, the deeper her grave would be.
My Thoughts:
Let me just take a moment to breathe because Gaslight wrecked me—in the best possible way. This book isn’t just a dark romance. It’s a full-on descent into desire, danger, and deliciousness…all contained in feelings and emotions. It has a touch of bad ass bitch energy. I enjoyed every wicked minute of it. There is so much to unpack in this story. I really don’t want to give away too many spoilers. However, we need to know some things.
*Please note this book comes with trigger warnings but they are all listed at the beginning of the book*
From the first chapter, I knew I was in trouble—the good kind of trouble. The writing is seductive, the pacing relentless, and the characters. Unforgettable. Now we are introduced to Clara. From the moment she was introduced to us, I knew I was about to be in love with her. There are so many reasons for this. If you know me, you know her cute but chaotic clumsiness was always going to win me over. More than anything else she has a story that deserves to be told. It deserves to be told loudly. It deserves to be screamed from the rooftops, her version of the story, at least.
❤️🔥 Clara: She’s not your typical damsel. She’s fierce, complex, and she doesn’t fall without a fight. But what you need to know is her emotions are complicated, her story is complicated and yet she is one of the world’s strongest women. She will make you laugh; she will make you cry and honestly you will fall in love with her repeatedly. Watching her resist—and then surrender—to that magnetic pull was pure, agonizing bliss. She’s the perfect match to the Driver Boy, there are just a few obstacles in our way that we must get past.

🖤 Driver Boy Enzo: How would you explain Driver Boy… Well, I would be lying if I didn’t say his subtle charm and dominance (not subtle for long) is the reason that he now finds himself top of my book boyfriend list. Brooding. Possessive. Dangerous. The kind of man who makes promises with a whisper and delivers pain and pleasure in equal measure. His families’ expectations of him and the outright betrayal he faces leaves him running around between multiple jobs and trying to prove himself. However, when it comes to our Clara, he is not here to play fair—he’s here to claim, to break, to ruin. And my god, I’d let him. And yet he is possibly the only love interest in this book (yes there is more than one) that allows Clara to be herself.

🌹 Their Relationship: Obsessive. Messy. All-consuming. Forbidden. This is the kind of love that shouldn’t exist, but once it does, it burns everything in its path. There are moments that made me gasp, scenes that left me blushing, and twists that punched me right in the soul. So much so that within reading all of one chapter of the book. I dropped Holly a voice notes which was basically me squeaking at her about how I wish I didn’t have to work that day so I could binge read the entire book. Quite frankly the sentence ‘this loud f**king mouth’ with and without context had me screaming. Take that as you will.
Sunflowers:
When I first started talking to Holly about the release of Gaslight, we discussed a point where a sunflower is referenced. We spoke about the meaning and how much I wanted to give her the biggest squeeze, but I also told her that sunflowers were what we had at my nan’s funeral and that no matter where I am seeing a sunflower always brings a multitude of emotions. Receiving my copy of Gaslight and seeing the subtle little sunflower on the back of the book, had me bawling my eyes out, not only because once you have read this book you know how incredibly strong and talented our author is and how special this novel is. But also, it made me smile and let out a tear for one of the strongest women I knew.

Overall story, listen this book is full of twists and turns, age gap relationships that will have your questioning just which man you dislike or like more. It really depends on the scene. Father’s expectations that are unreasonable and quite frankly frustrating. Yet we find that most of the story is told from Clara’s perspective of everything that is happening, and I found it incredibly hard to not find myself attached to her very quickly.
The book is 561 pages of Betrayal, lust, love, death, loss, grief, power, and well self-acceptance. It is rare for me to find a book that I know I must read again after just five chapters.
✨ Highlights:
- Red flag romance that had me screaming, “No… but also, yes??”
- Tension so thick you could cut it with a knife (or a well-placed threat) or you know work it out on a tyre… (will make sense once you’ve read the book.)
- Scorching scenes that toe the line between pain and pleasure (listen the girl can write a spicy scene and not just well but make you mildly obsessed.)
- Plot twists that made me put the book down just to process. By process I mean I read it in two days. Put the book down picked it up and continued to read it.
- The little nod to Illicit Affairs and Mr Brooks, who we still love. Quite frankly, Enzo makes him look like a saint.
- The bite mark tattoo
- And an ending that left me craving more (and possibly in therapy but in all the right ways.)
This book is not for the faint of heart—and thank God for that. The end of chapter 49 had my heart leaping out of my chest. It was so intense that I almost threw the book across the room. I had not expected to bawl my eyes out several times in this book. But here we are.
The ending of this book is bloody spectacular. Credit where credit is due, the author knows how to keep you gripped. From the moment you pick the book up, to the moment you turn to the very last page.
It’s for readers who love their romance dark, dirty, and dripping with emotional chaos. This is for the who will not only put up with my bratting but take great pleasure in maintaining it girlies. Congratulations. This one’s for you!

Spice Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 (Brace. Yourself. You have been warned)
Final Thoughts: Gaslight is a masterclass in dark romance. Obsessive love. Unforgivable choices. Red-hot chemistry. And to be fair a therapy session all in one. It checked every box and then set the whole checklist on fire. I’m officially feral and must learn to stop spamming Holly’s Tik-Toks.
For those that get to read this for the very first time consider me incredibly jealous of this fact.
💋🖤 Read it. Obsess over it. Lose your moral compass and enjoy the fall. ‘don’t let life gaslight you into thinking you’re stuck.’💋🖤
Love Always,
Gee xoxo

To Holly:
I wanted to thank you for trusting me to review Gaslight. From the moment you came running into my life with a copy of illicit affairs in hand, I felt grateful. Truthfully, even before that with my favorite little story Fallen Lights, which can only be described as a Wattpad special. You have been someone that I knew I would have to keep up with no matter what. I am lucky enough to consider you a friend and that is an actual pleasure. Then you birthed Gaslight and oh wow what a story you created. I am so proud of you and more so because I know what the story means to you. I am honored to be one of those allowed to review ahead of the release date. I could read and read this book over and over. I will very much will do so. On a personal note, thank you for giving me a push to get All Things Gee going again. This review would not be happening without you! I adore you! Thank you for being you!
Love Always,
Gee xoxo
