Dearest Well You,
It’s been a while… It’s almost time to dust off those cobwebs and step back into one of my favourite times of the year. But before we get to that, we have some catching up to do.
It is only right that we start with my thoughts on a little movie that had everyone talking (are these thoughts a little late…yes), but I was actually recommended this film by someone who, well, let’s just say annoyingly tends to be pretty spot on with their movie recommendations.
My Overall Thoughts:
Voicemails to Isabelle is a movie that had me sobbing, laughing and weirdly feeling the need to watch so many 90s/00s rom-coms back to back. We love a good rom-com in this house… even if we don’t want to admit it. Up until being recommended Voicemails to Isabelle, I don’t remember the last time I watched a rom-com.
One thing you can’t help but love in this movie is the cheesy references to other rom-coms throughout this movie. I also think there was something truly beautiful about being recommended this film by someone.
The movie itself follows Jill and her journey of processing grief and holding onto the memories of her sister by being able to hear her voice. It’s crazy how a little voicemail or video becomes a coping mechanism for being able to process your emotions.
My Thoughts on the Characters:
Wes, our romantic lead- let’s be real, we are all in love with him; we can admit it. But I desperately did not like the fact that he did not own up sooner to listening to her voicemails. He, however, made up for it by the end of the movie. I think it is hard not to have a soft spot for him.
Jill was the most intriguing character to me; despite going through a period of grief in losing her sister, there was still something so full of life about her and her passions.
My Thoughts on the soundtrack:
Soundtracks are one of those things that I think can make or break a movie. I mean, I think we would be lying if we said we didn’t have that one song that reminds you of that one person. I think there’s something so special in having a song that gets.
The soundtrack to this movie is one that I have to admit I have become a big fan of. I would be lying if I said I wouldn’t expect to see Robyn’s ‘Dancing on My Own’ on my Spotify Wrapped this year.
The End…
The ending… Perfection. I cried like an unhinged amount because it couldn’t have been more perfectly set up and a lovely way to end the film. This movie really did have me feeling a multitude of emotions.
So I think it’s safe to say that it was a solid recommendation that I may or may not give them credit for one day.
